Tourmaline from Ibadan, Nigeria

No. 976: Trophy Pavilion Cut with Step Crown, 1.42 ct., VVS, 6.6 x 5.3 mm, $113.60 Faceted by R. Drummond Sold

Shown above is an intense rosy-pink tourmaline cut from Nigerian material. The cut on this little dazzler is an adaption by R. Drummond. The cut delivers excellent scintillation and light return across the entire top of the gem. I gave this gem a clarity grade of VVS (the highest GIA clarity grade for colored stones). It might actually be internally flawless, but I didn't take the time to meticulously inspect it under the scope to see if that is acutally the case. This is an expertly crafted gemstone; the facet meets, symmetry, and polish are all excellent. This gem would look beautiful as the center stone in a pendant, pin, or ring.

Except for the expert faceting, the gem rough for this stone, and the stone itself, have not been enhanced in any way.
