Tourmaline from the Ibadan region of Nigeria
No. 563: Radian Cut, 4.96 ct., VVS, 13.1 x 7.0 x 7.9 mm, faceted by R. Drummond, $297.60 Sold
Shown above is a deep, raspberry-red, tourmaline that would look great in a pendant, pin, or special occasion ring. This stone has no eye visible inclusions and the faceting is exceptionally fine. The radian cut is unusual in that the top half of the gem (The crown) comes to a point. Most gemstones have a flat facet on the top that is called the Table facet. The pointed crown disrupts light reflecting from the pavilion in a rather unusual fashion; much more interesting than the reflections from the typical step cut. This gem has not been heat treated.
