This is another tourmaline from a newly discovered gemfield in Nigeria. This gemfield is producing some of the finest pink to red tourmaline to have reached the market in many years. Red tourmaline is called rubellite. The stone shown above is a deep reddish pink (Or is it a light pinkish red?) that displays an unusual chevron-patterned color zoning of darker and lighter hues. The color zoning is not as apparent in the actual stone as it is in this greatly enlarged image. The stone's clarity is very good. This is a "Native cut" stone, but its'symmetry and polish are also very good. If you like deep rich color, you will like this stone. It would make a great focal point for a ring or pendant.
