This is another tourmaline from a gemfield located near Ibadan, Nigeria. This gemfield is producing some of the finest pink to red tourmaline to have reached the market in many years. Red tourmaline is called rubellite. Shown above is a beautiful raspberry pink gem faceted by R. Drummond. The gem is actually moderately color-zoned. The original tourmaline crystal was blue on one end, shades of pink in the middle, and light green on the other end. When viewed from the side hints of all these colors can be seen. When viewed face-on, the gem is a lovely range of pink hues with a slight orange hue on one end. This expertly crafted gem would make an exquisite centerpiece in a ring or pendant.
