Sunstone from Lakeview (Plush), Oregon

No. 926X: Bright Emerald Cut, 3.82 ct., 10.2 x 8.5 x 6.5 mm, VS, faceted in the U.S.A., $458.40

Sunstone (feldspar) from this gem field comes in a variety of colors. Most common is a light straw-yellow color. Most highly prized is deeply saturated reddish-orange sunstone (hence the name "Sunstone"). The reddish color is a result of trace amounts of copper. When the copper is present as tiny platelets, light can reflect from the surface of the platelets and cause an iridescence termed "Schiller." This gemstone contains only two tiny schiller bands barely visible at 10X magnification. The color of this gem is a fine, medium-deep, reddish-orange. The facet meets, proprotion, and polish are all good. This gem would look great in a pendant, pin, or special occasion ring.
