Sunstone from Lakeview (Plush), Oregon

No. 923X: Zircon Cut, 1.64 ct., 8.1 x 5.0 mm, SI1, faceted in the U.S.A., $196.80 Sold

Sunstone (feldspar) from this gem field comes in a variety of colors. Most common is a light straw-yellow color. Most highly prized is deeply saturated reddish-orange sunstone (hence the name "Sunstone"). The reddish color is a result of trace amounts of copper. When the copper is present as tiny platelets, light can reflect from the surface of the platelets and cause an iridescence termed "Schiller." This gemstone contains one group of parallel schiller bands stretching from the periphery of the stone toward the center; just enough schiller to identify the gem as a natural creation of nature. The color of this gem is a very fine, medium-deep, reddish-orange. The facet meets, proprotion, and polish are all good. This gem would look great in a pendant, pin, or special occasion ring.
