Sunstone from Lakeview (Plush), Oregon

No. 880: Triangular Brilliant Cut, 0.95 ct., 6.8 x 6.8 x 4.4 mm, VVS, faceted by Robert Drummond, $76.00 On Hold

Sunstone (feldspar) from this gem field comes in a variety of colors. Most common is a light straw-yellow color. Most highly prized is deeply saturated reddish-orange sunstone (Hence the name "Sunstone"). The reddish color is a result of trace amounts of copper. When the copper is present as tiny platelets, light can reflect from the surface of the platelets and cause an iridescence termed "Schiller." This gemstone contains no Schiller. The color of this gem is a fine slightly reddish-orange. The facet meets, proprotion, and polish are all very fine. This gem would look fabulous in a pendant, pin, or special occasion ring.
