Shown above is a fancy reddish-brown sapphire from Africa. Although this is a native cut gemstone, the overall facet shapes, meets, polish, and light return are all reasonably good. There is a small window in this stone, but there is still good scintillation over most of the crown. This sapphire is very reasonably priced and would look most unusual in a pendant, pin, or ring.

Note: Much natural sapphire is heat treated to improve both clarity and color. It should be assumed that the above sapphire has been thus treated.
