Peridot from San Carlos, Arizona

Peridot No. 995, Superpear Cut, VVS, 2.52 ct., 10.2 x 7.4 x 6.0 mm, $126.00, faceted by Robert Drummond Sold

San Carlos peridot comes in a wide array of yellowish-green hues. The gem shown above is a fine example of the bright yellowish-green peridot from this location. Most San Carlos peridot is rather heavily included. I have inspected much San Carlos peridot gem rough, and have cut many stones from that material. It is very unusual to find peridot from this locality that will cut a VVS clarity (better than eye-clean) stone greater than one carat in size. The stone shown above is an unusually fine San Carlos gem peridot. The Superpear Cut, a design by Robert Long, delivers excellent light return and scintillation. The faceting (proportions, facet meets, polish) is very fine. In short, this peridot rivals the best peridot gems to come from Pakistan, China, or any other location in the world. This stone would make a beautiful centerpiece in a pendant, pin, or ring.
