San Carlos peridot comes in a wide array of yellowish-green hues. The gem shown above is a fine example of the bright yellowish-green peridot from this location. Most San Carlos peridot is rather heavily included. It is difficult to find a piece of rough gem material from this area that can be cut into a large, eye-clean, stone. This gem has a few small inclusions that are difficult to see by eye (inclusions located in lower right corner of gemstone). The Pogonia Cut, a design by Merle Reinikka, delivers great light return and a very pleasing pattern of light scintillation. This is an expertly crafted and very brilliant gem that would make a beautiful centerpiece in a large ring, pin, or pendant.
