San Carlos peridot comes in a wide array of yellowish-green hues. The gem shown above is an example of the darker, more olive-green colored peridot from this location. Most San Carlos peridot is rather heavily included. It is difficult to find a piece of rough gem material from this area that is not heavily included. The above gemstone is of excellent clarity (VS). The Capella Cut, a design by Fred van Sant, delivers good scintillation and an interesting pattern of light flashes. This is an expertly crafted gem that would make an attractive centerpiece in a ring, pin, or pendant.
