The Road to Kilbourne Hole, Dona Ana County, New Mexico

It's early morning and the sun has just illuminated Mt. Riley, located a few miles to the west of Kilbourne Hole. I have turned west and traveled about three miles on Dona Ana A-011, the narrow track you see in the foreground. Kilbourne Hole still lies a few miles ahead. Don't expect to see it until you arrive at it's southeastern edge. The road is narrow and all washboard. The sandy track is passable by most two-wheel-drive vehicles that have normal to good clearance. If it looks like rain, or has recently rained, you would be wise to stay home.
