No. 819B: Polished baroque nodule, VVS, 4.77 carats, 16 mm maximum dimension, crafted in Mexico, $152.64
I don't normally photograph opal using natural sunlight. It
is difficult to get the shot set up when the light source is constantly moving.
The angle at which a point source of light (like the sun) hits an opal has a great
affect on what colors one observes. Of course I try to show some of the best color
flash a particular opal will have to offer. Fortunately, these Mexican crystal opals
show great color from almost all directions. Anyway, the above image was shot using
only illumination from early morning sun. I wanted to present a few opal images
using natural lighting so sceptical gem shoppers can be assured that these opals
are true dazzlers.
