The name "fire opal" refers to the deep reddish-orange color of this gem material. This fire opal does not display the rainbow-like iridescence (Called "play of color") which changes with angle of observation. Opal is relatively soft and is best used in jewelry settings that protect it from shock and abrasion. This gem would be excellent for a simple modern-style pendant design.
