No. 814N, 815N: Oval Cuts, VS, 1.23 total carats, ~7 x 5 x 4 mm each, faceted by a native cutter, $55.35 total
The name "fire opal" describes the deep reddish-orange color of this gem material. Precious opal from San Juan del Rio varies in color from deep reds, to oranges, to yellows, to colorless. Some fire opal may display irridescent color (called "play of color") which changes with angle of observation. The above gems do not display irridescence, but the body colors are a vibrant slightly reddish-orange. At the 2004 Tucson gem shows, I picked through a large parcel of fire opals trying to find pairs suitable for use in earrings. The above native-cut stones are well matched in color and transparency. They are offered at a very reasonable price.
Opal is relatively soft and is best used in jewelry settings
that protect it from shock and abrasion. These stones would look beautiful in a pendant,
pin, earrings, or special occasion ring.
