Emerald from Africa

No. 147N: Emerald Cut, SI1, 0.81 ct., 6.0 x 4.6 x 3.8 mm, faceted by: native cutter, $243.00

Natural emerald (beryl colored green by trace amounts of chromium or vanadium) rarely occurs as flawless crystals. The price of emerald rapidly increases to thousands of dollars per carat as the clarity improves and the color saturation increases. Shown above is a very nice emerald of fine color and good clarity. This gem would make a very attractive center stone in a pendant, pin, or special occasion ring.

Note: Essentially all emerald gemstones are subjected to oil treatment. This procedure introduces a colorless oil into minute fissures in the gemstone and improves the overall clarity. It should be assumed that this gem has been so treated.
