Apatite from Slyudyanka, Transbaikalia (Siberia, CIR)

No. 510: Minuet Cut, 1.40 ct., 8.0 x 8.0 x 5.3 mm, SI1, $42.00 Sold

The Minuet Cut is one of many beautiful faceting patterns created by Edith Strout. This apatite is a uniform light bluish green color. It is a very bright stone with good light return. Because of the the orientation of the rough gem material to the table facet, this piece of apatite does not show the individual blue and green color components seen in some of our other Sludyanka apatite gems. The slightly "Bubbly" appearance of some of the pavilion facets is a photographic artifact caused by the stone resting on a cotton pad. This gem has not been enhanced (e.g. treated) in any way. Apatite is a soft material that requires the skill of an expert metalsmith to be set without damage.
