Amethyst from Jackson's Crossroads, Georgia
No. JXR2: Pear Cut: 4.51 ct., SI1, 14.0 x 9.6 x 6.7 mm, $225.50 faceted in the U.S.A. by a member of Jerry Call's Rio Doce Inc. Sold
Shown here is a beautiful, medium-depth, amethyst from a small amethyst mine located
at Jackson's Crossroads, Georgia. This locality has been know for many years, but
has only recently been mined on a commercial basis. Amethyst of excellent clarity
and color is now available from this Georgia deposit. The amethyst gemstone shown
above has reasonable clarity, and shows the fine medium-depth purple color typical
of this locality. The polish and overall proportion of the stone is good, but the
facet meets and facet symmetry are slightly "off". The stone is slightly
color-zoned, but the zoning is barely noticeable face-up. This gem is a good size
for a ringstone, pendant, or pin. The gem rough for this gemstone was mined by Rodney
Moore, the recent developer of the JXR amethyst deposit, and faceted in the U.S.A.
by a member of Jerry Call's Rio Doce Inc.
