Here is a specimen to please both the fossil and mineral collector; a Pleistocene clam fossil (Mercenaria sp.) replaced with calcite. The calcite is present as clear, dog-tooth shaped points of a nice dark honey color. Furthermore, this calcite is fluorescent (yellowish-green) and phosphorescent. This beautiful specimen came from Ruck's Pit in a quarry in Florida. These unique specimens have only reached the fossil/mineral market in the last few years and have become very popular with collectors. This specimen consists primarily of well-formed calcite crystals; there is only a small amount of cream-colored fossil shell attached.. (#M428, $7.50 Sold) Back
